While on vacation, I noticed some interesting art in the Hotel lobby. I wished I could have a few of these pieces for my home, but knew I couldn't afford them.
When I returned home, I decided to try my hand at painting. I was well into my 50's and had no formal art training. I couldn't even draw.
So, it was quite a surprise to others and myself when I just started doing it. It has been so much fun, and I've quickly developed my own style.
I've been working with watercolor, acrylic and ink. Most of my work is abstract, but I also do children's art.
Some of my paintings have been inspired by Uganda, Africa. My husband, who has been there, fell in love with the people and when he saw their poverty and sickness, he knew we had to do something to help them.
So we hooked up with a group called Hope 4 Kids, and I've been able to donate some of my paintings to raise money for the people there. It is a great joy, to paint with a purpose.
For quite some time, watercolors have always caught my eye but never made it to my paintbrush. And now that I have immersed myself in this beautiful medium, my brush is rarely dry.
During my time of exploring watercolor, I was introduced to a wonderful group of people living in the small village of Mumutumba, Uganda. Their lack of basic needs has never hindered their love and hospitality to others. Though many are widowed and orphaned, their lives are full of hope and faith. Their lives are filled with song and dance. Their lives are filled with thankfulness and generosity. It is their lives that I now paint.
